To pick up with where To pick up with where I left off yesterday....it was the spring of 1997 and we had just released "gush". We were playing once a week now at places like Spirits, Bud's, Spanky's, Rosie's, The Beginning II, and even a couple of shows up by OCC at Tavern on the Hill. We had also hooked up with local booking agent Dave Rezak and another agency out of Buffalo (neon entertainment) to get a few shows. Our highlight for the summer came when MTV reviewed gush and had a lot of nice things to say about it. They posted it on their webpage (and we even had a webpage now www.dreamscape.com/gush) Our friend Wake's friend Donald put it together for us. He also coincidentally fired Donald a year later without discussing it with us first, a whole other story unto itself. We were building our fanbase and played a few shows down at Styleens on Sunday nights. Our first show there was with Mearle Throttle and Samsara. We also played a few shows over at Club Atlantis by the mall. We opened up for Econoline Crush out of Canada. What a crazy pairing. They had the leather and well...we didn't. It was fun nonetheless though. In September we played a show at the Music Lovers Shoppe on the boulevard to record for a live KROCK airing with Silent Bob. That was fun and the Cd is around somewhere. Dave Frisina also began spinning the disc on SOUNDCHECK Sunday nights. We played a couple other shows over at Atlantis with bands like WHO CARES out of NYC, Ashley Cox, Guardrail, The Flashing Astonishers, and Phil Broikos. We even landed a show at an SU game in the Carrier Dome when SU played St. John's on Jan 27th of 99'. We were also playing a regular show out at the old Ryan's Cafe in Fulton (The Brickhouse). Coleman's was also in the rotation. By the end of this year we were talking about working on a new CD and other big changes as well. We had to change our name. A band out of Long Island was being distributed nationally as "gush" and we had no choice. I would love to tell you that there was a big legal battle and drawn out court hearings over copyright entitlements but unfortunatley, we just quietly made the change one night. As of December 10, 1998 we were a new band with a new look. OK, same old band, same look. NEW NAME. With 1999 on the horizon so were even bigger shows. Balloon Fest, Party in the Plaza, several college shows, and a few opening slots for nationals was to come. I'll pick up here tomorrow........

Well it's been 5 years Well it's been 5 years since we got this project up and running. Seems like just yesterday we were practicing on the north side of Syracuse in the basement where Terry and I lived. Our first show ever as gush was up at The Incomplete up on Syracuse Universities' south campus. I would be affraid to see the equiptment that we used to play out through if it were still around. We quickly booked shows (as gush) down at Spanky's in Cortland, The Beginning 2 in East Syracuse, and Bud's Lakefront Cafe in Cicero. 2 of these bars are no longer in existence unfortunately, they were a lot of fun. The Beginning 2 is still up and running, I don't think even a plague could shut that place down. We made trips to Rochester to play a bar called The Captain's Attic where the bar owner tried to stiff us and we got into an arguement in the back with him in between sets. What an ass. Knock on wood that never happened again. We then saved up enough money to record our first CD "gush". We were writing songs from the begining and nine months after we got together, we were ready to put the first eleven down on a CD. The recording studio was located out in Baldwinsville and we recorded the album rather quickly. Partly because we were anxious to get it done and partly because the studio wanted to rush us through. We were young and inexperienced and would not be around in a year or two. What did they care. Man were they wrong! Our first ever CD release party was at Borders in Carousel Mall followed by a party at Rick's brother's house. We followed that up with a CD release party down at our home away from home in Cortland, Spanky's. By this time we were now playing regularly out at Spirit's in Auburn and Coleman's was not too far off. We played a couple of dates at the Planet 505 as well. You never knew what type of crowd to expect up there. We also played a show up at Rosie's as we began to look elsewhere in the city to play. By now the band was a year old and a lot had been accomplished. We released a CD that was #1 in the Syracuse Newtimes Chart for the month of February and March in 1998. We had also hooked up with a booking agent that was about to start setting shows up for us out of town. A lot of things were falling into place for us. I'll pick up here tomorrow with the next year (1998-1999)............................

Hope everyone's holiday was fun. Hope everyone's holiday was fun. We will be back in the swing of things and updating the schedule so be looking for new dates. We will be playing a few new places so write in if there are any questions or concerns. Congratulations to Kim our webmaster for landing herself a new house with her soon-to-be hubby Jim. As you may well know we recorded a live cd from Coleman's just before the holidays. The recording captured some gems as well as some interesting banter in the background...people should watch what they say! (You know who I am talking about) It's release is pending but expected early spring. I will keep you posted. We are also currently recording at Kianka Studios locally. The early sessions look very promising. As with everything, we are looking more towards the summer or so for a release date. Thanks and keep the suggestions coming they help us keep a perspective. |
